Makers without Borders

 Makers Without Borders is a virtual global conversation led by American Center Manila and FabLab Mindanao. Joining in each session are other GIST iHubs, Fab Labs, Startup Hubs, and makerspaces in the ASEAN region and other parts of the world where GIST iHubs are present.

In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of U.S. – Philippine diplomatic relations, join the U.S. Embassy’s American Spaces Philippines and FAB LAB Mindanao of the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology GIST Net iHub as they bring together friends and partners from government and academe who will share the positive impact of bilateral collaborations in building and strengthening inclusive innovation across the Philippines.

To celebrate World Press Freedom Day, Makers without Borders brings together science journalists and media champions to share their views on science, technology, and innovation journalism in the age of the fourth industrial revolution. Our featured guests include green innovators from the Philippines and Indonesia, who will share how innovation and the maker movement contributes to environmental sustainability and fight climate change.
In celebration of Women’s History Month, this panel aims to discuss how we can maximize the participation of women in FAB LABs and makerspaces.

Join FAB LAB Mindanao of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, a GIST Innovation Hub and American Spaces Philippines of the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, as they host a panel of digital innovators and youth empowerment leaders who will share their projects and initiatives. This webinar with the Heads of Institutions of the FAB LABs Philippines Technical Working Group from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao discussed collaboration perspectives for bigger innovative impact. We also had the Undersecretary of the Regional Operations Group of the Department of Trade and Industry as a special guest.

Four youth groups from Region 10 have developed four product prototypes that aim to address local problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this special episode of Makers Without Borders, with the theme “Innovations of Hope: Makers’ Response to COVID-19”, the panel discussed the role of the design thinking response of makers and digital fabrication laboratories to the COVID-19 crisis. Moderated by FAB LAB Mindanao of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, the webinar panelists from South East Asia composed of health professionals, makers, American Corners, FAB LAB managers and innovators was joined by  Fab Foundation in Boston, Massachusetts, in an action-based discussion for significant innovative responses in these challenging times.

This episode discussed the role of the Digital Fabrication Laboratories to fabricating 5G Smart Cities. Webinar panelists were from the Global Innovation through Science and Technology GIST I-Hubs in collaboration with ElSpace Social Innovation Hub of Tunisia, Berytech Fab Lab of Lebanon, Digital Lifestyle Malaysia, One Maker Group of Singapore, Fablab Bandung of Indonesia and FAB LAB Mindanao of the Philippines in coordination with the FAB LAB of Philippine Science High School – Ilocos Region Campus and the Global Innovation through Science and Technology

This episode discussed the role and challenges that different innovation ecosystems face within the maker community and how this can be addressed by national and regional collaboration. Webinar panelists were from the Global Innovation through Science and Technology GIST Net I-Hubs in collaboration with El Space Social Innovation Hub of Tunisia, Berytech Fab Lab of Lebanon, Chiang Mai University Science and Technology Park of Thailand and FAB LAB Mindanao of the Philippines in coordination with Darussalam Enterprise of Brunei, and American Corner Manila – De La Salle University Libraries.

This webinar with the theme “Building the Next Generation of Innovators”, discussed the role of FAB LABs and Makerspaces in training kids and the youth through various innovation programs. Webinar panelists were from the Global Innovation through Science and Technology GIST Net I-Hubs in collaboration with ElSpace Social Innovation Hub of Tunisia, Berytech Fab Lab of Lebanon, and FAB LAB Mindanao in coordination with Save the Children-Laos, and FAB LAB Bandung of Indonesia.

In celebration of the Global Entrepreneurship Week and Philippine Startup Week 2019, this episode discussed the role of hackathons in economic development featuring panelists from the U.S. Department of State GIST Net Innovation Hubs.

This virtual global conversation aimed to explore and learn about how makerspaces and innovation hubs do their part in contributing to environmental sustainability.

In collaboration with El Space Social Innovation Hub El Fabspace of Tunisia, Berytech Fab Lab of Lebanon, and FAB LAB Mindanao of the Philippines, this panel discussed how FAB LABs can collaborate with each other in order to address the needs of the community.
