The first virtual Kapihan sa Mindanao, a monthly webinar hosted by the U.S. Embassy in collaboration with American Corners in Mindanao and the Lady Sharia Counsellors-at-Law of the Philippines (LSCAP), was held last December 3, 2021. The discussion focused on Rido and its impact on local communities and the upcoming elections. Kapihan sa Mindanao serves as an open and safe platform to create unified efforts to foster sustainable peace in Mindanao.

NASA Space Apps Challenge| October 2-3, 2021
American Spaces Philippines together with its American Corners hosted the 2021 NASA Space Apps Challenge from October 2-3, 2021. Ten teams from three cities (Cagayan de Oro, Davao, and Biñan) participated in the two-day hackathon to develop tech-based solutions to global challenges using NASA’s open source data.
“Lutaw” VR Film Screening and Panel Discussion| Sept. 8, 2021
American Spaces Philippines hosted the Philippines premiere of the animated virtual reality short film, Lutaw VR to celebrate the International Day of Literacy. The screening was followed by a panel discussion led by the film’s producers, where they talked about raising awareness on the education needs of communities in remote underserved areas.
American Corners’ Conference| August 25-27, 2021
American Center Manila hosted the annual American Corners (AC) Conference on August 25-27, 2021 with the theme, “Moving Forward with Innovation, Collaboration, and Digital Transformation”. Directors and Coordinators from ACs across the country discussed shared goals and priorities, program updates, and upcoming plans. The conference also connected the ACs to Public Affairs specialists from the U.S. Embassy and highlighted the role of ACs in strengthening the diplomatic ties between the Philippines and the United States.
AC Puerto Princesa Launch| June 4, 2021
American Corner Puerto Princesa at Palawan State University was officially launched as the fifteenth American Corner in the Philippines on June 4, 2021 and is now part of the largest network of American Corners in Southeast Asia. This launch is part of celebrating the 75years of U.S.-Philippines Diplomatic Relations.
Haquathon 2.0 Virtual Launch | April 24, 2021
Fifteen teams from the ASEAN region competed in Haquathon 2.0 (H20), a regional hackathon which aims to protect marine resources through tech-based platforms. This project was first launched in 2019-2020 and is a collaboration between Save Philippine Seas and American Spaces Philippines.
